Before we set off I had my chores to do. Making packed lunches.... :-
and doing the ironing. They make such demands these guys! :-
This is Doreen (on the right) and Frank Phillips and their friend Barbara who helps with the B&B. :-
Throughout this walk we have come across some thoroughly nice people, but these three would sweep the board if we were giving out prizes for friendliness and hospitality. They run their business on the principle of "Welcome, make yourselves at home". Nothing was too much trouble. For instance, Chris needed to wash some clothes and asked if they had guest's laundry facilities. No more ado, Doreen said leave it with me, and took them off him. He got his clothes back this morning, washed, dried and neatly folded! She wouldn't accept a penny for doing it. Bless them, they even gave us a £10 donation to the fund as we were leaving! Fantastic people!
The route the walkers took from Danby Wiske crosses the East Coast Main Rail Line and they had to hang about for a bit while Joe indulged in his other hobby of photographing trains. :-
He is particularly proud of this one, having snapped it at the right moment as the train came thundering towards him at high speed. :-
Any ideas what this building is? I was surprised when Patrick told me it is a water tower serving Ingleby Arncliffe. I first thought it was a folly of some sort that had been built in someone's memory as they usually are. :-
Thesed two are looking a bit lost! :-
The walkers arrived at the Bluebell Inn earlier than expected. It is where we are staying tonight. Here's Chris finishing off his lunch with a welcome glass of lager. Patrick is being a good boy and drinking orange juice. :-
Then it started raining....very heavily, a veritable cloudburst! :-
Then it was gone, almost as soon as it started. :-
Did you notice the figure sitting under the tree in the last but one photo?. Here it is in more detail. :-
I don't know what it is called, but some wag in the party called it " Married Man"!
Later in the bar Joe practised his ballet steps...:-
While Patrick looked on in amusement, and Nev thought "What a plonker!"
HAVING ARRIVED AT INGLEBY CROSS WE HAVE TRAVERSED THE FLATLAND OF THE VALE OF MOWBRAY. TOMORROW THE INTREPID TRIO WILL BE HEADING FOR THE HIGH GROUND OF THE CLEVELAND HILLS AND CLAY BANK TOP.
