Unfortunately the Intrepid Trio semed to forget they had cameras with them, so I am sorry dear reader, I have not much to show you. They can be forgiven, as they needed to keep plodding on to get this long trek over and done with. No time to waste taking photos!
If you remember here is the end of yesterday's walk. :-
Immediately across the road is the start of today's. It's called Hagg's Gate. :-
A hagg can mean a block of peat or a witch or a sorceress. There's lots of peat in these moorlands and with the skull by the gatepost, you can take your choice about the meaning!
The path is still following the Cleveland Way :-
and ascends on to Urra Moor. :-
and continues to Bloworth Crossing, Dale Head, Farndale, High Blakey Moor :-
and eventually to the Lion Inn at Blakey. :-
Dating from 1553 the Lion is a bleak and isolated moorland inn. It's situated amongst a desolate, long abandoned, ironstone and coal mining area, much like the wastelands, described on a previous page, above Keld. The only patrons are now tourists, on foot, cycle or motorised transport.
From here the path goes by Rosedale Head and Danby Moor. :-
Then on to Glaisdale Rigg where it descends into Glaisdale :-
where a welcome pint in The Arncliffe Arms was waiting. :-
Joe felt he deserved a prize for completing this long walk, so we gave him this. :-
GOOD ON YOU JOE! (AND PATRICK AND CHRIS).
ROBIN HOOD'S BAY IS NOW ONLY 20 MILES AWAY!
